Calthorpe Estates and Redrow create exciting residential scheme at Edgbaston Mill

Calthorpe Estates has agreed a deal with Redrow to create a high quality residential scheme, as part of plans to develop the 9 acre site at Edgbaston Mill, opposite Edgbaston Cricket Ground.

Outline planning permission has been granted to progress a stunning mixed use scheme which will provide approximately 20,000 sq m of attractive residential space, 3,780 sq m of office space and 2,000 sq m for retail. In addition, a 4,000 sq m health and leisure facility and 6,000 sq m of serviced apartments are planned.

Mark Hope, Calthorpe Estates, Project Director for Edgbaston Mill says, “We are enthusiastic to work with Redrow on such an exciting project that will improve facilities and open up new opportunities for the local area. The agreement forms an important partnership and the joint initiative will benefit the overall scheme.”

Redrow plans to construct around 300 apartments, that will offer an enviable contemporary lifestyle in a truly stunning setting. Adrian Farr, Managing Director for Redrow Homes (West Midlands) says, “It’s an ideal position for a prestigious residential scheme; within the heart of Edgbaston, overlooking the test ground of Warwickshire County Cricket Club and close to the rural oasis of Cannon Hill Park, but with the UK’s second largest city on the doorstep.

“The plan has been developed over a number of years to deliver exceptional homes and amenities with outstanding design in this magnificent landscape. We are delighted to be part of such an exciting landmark project.”

Calthorpe Estates start work on site infrastructure and initial landscaping late spring 2005 with the aim of laying down access and opening up the site ready for construction in spring 2006. The development is due for final completion in 2009.

Savills acted as selling agents on behalf of Calthorpe Estate. Commenting on the potential impact of the scheme on market conditions, Richard Franklin of Savills, Birmingham office said “The scheme is an important counter point to the large city centre developments and will create a high quality sub-market in this part of the city for owner occupiers and investors alike.”
