Calthorpe Estates and Redrow creating the best of both worlds

City centre living will no longer have to be compromised in pursuit of a suburban lifestyle as Calthorpe Estates and Redrow create the best of both worlds with the Hemisphere residential scheme at the landmark Edgbaston Mill development.

The £100 million mixed-use scheme is being created adjacent to Edgbaston Cricket Ground and will be transformed into a prestigious place to both live and work, offering 344 stylish one and two bedroom apartments designed by leading architects Ruddle Wilkinson.

As one of the UK’s most successful residential property developers, Redrow Homes West Midlands Limited was selected to develop the residential element of the scheme due to their reputation for excellence and extensive experience in property development.

Natasha Walkden, Sales and Marketing Coordinator, commented, “With Edgbaston Mill being situated amid Britain’s largest urban conservation area and being only a short distance from the core of a vibrant and world class city, the development truly combines two lifestyles into one.

“For a scheme which will become an elegant and sought-after destination in Birmingham, it was imperative that we chose a dynamic and forward thinking company with proven expertise in the housebuilding field to deliver these high quality apartments.

“Redrow met all of our criteria and complement our own brand values. They will help us to create an inspiring new development, which will become the best place to both live and work and will offer more lifestyle opportunities for the local community.”

The nine-acre scheme, will offer a 20,000 sq m of residential space, 2,650 sq m of retail and A3 space, 5,600 sq m of office space, a 5,600 sq m hotel and 3,000 sq m of leisure facilities.

A stunning artistic piazza, approximately the same scale as Victoria Square in the city centre, will front the scheme, which will provide a large area of coveted public space. The development will also boast a unique lighting programme, which will adjust to the time of day and create atmospheric ‘mood’ lighting at night.

In addition, a boulevard will enhance access to the site, linking the test ground of Warwickshire County Cricket Club with the magnificent landscape of Cannon Hill Park - a move which has been welcomed by the Garden History Society as respecting historical views, while delivering a new entrance to the park.

Linda Androlia, Sales Director for Redrow commented, “Redrow is delighted to be working with Calthorpe Estates to deliver this landmark development which will positively contribute to the regeneration of Birmingham.

“The scheme will offer people the opportunity to enjoy a cosmopolitan way of life with all the amenities of city living on their doorstep but in a tranquil location. Hemisphere will set the standard of contemporary living and provide people with the unique chance to enjoy two types of lifestyles.”

Cordwell Property Group is the joint developer for the commercial element of the scheme, which will meet the need for quality facilities and services within Edgbaston. Work has commenced on site and is due to complete at the end of 2008.
